Frequently Asked Questions
What is LANShare?
LANShare is a free, open-source app for sharing your screen with other computers on the same local network (LAN). One computer hosts a room and streams its screen; the others join and watch.
What do I need to use it?
- A computer running Windows 11 for each person — the host and every viewer.
- All computers on the same local network, or on the same virtual network, such as Radmin VPN.
- LANShare on every computer. There’s no account to create and nothing to install: just extract the
.zipand openLANShare.exe.
Is LANShare free?
Yes. LANShare is completely free and open source under the MIT License. If you’d like to support the project, you can do it on Ko-fi.
Does it work over the internet or with Radmin VPN?
LANShare is built for local networks, so it doesn’t connect over the internet by itself. If the computers are in different places, you can put them on the same virtual network with Radmin VPN — it has been tested and works, including automatic room discovery. Other virtual LAN tools may also work, but haven’t been tested. See Using Radmin VPN in the guide.
Does LANShare stream audio?
Not yet. LANShare currently shares video only. Audio may come in a future version.
Does it work on Windows 10, macOS or Linux?
LANShare officially supports Windows 11. It hasn’t been tested on Windows 10, so it may or may not work there. There are no macOS or Linux versions.
What resolution and frame rate does it support?
The host can stream in 720p or 1080p, at 15 or 30 FPS. If the stream stutters, try 720p or 15 FPS.
How many people can watch at the same time?
There’s no fixed limit. Keep in mind that every viewer receives their own copy of the stream, so each extra viewer uses more of the host’s network bandwidth.
I can’t find the room in the list. What can I do?
- Make sure all computers are on the same network (or the same Radmin VPN network).
- Allow LANShare through the Windows Firewall on private networks. If you dismissed that prompt, go to Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall.
- Connect manually using the host’s IP address — or the host’s Radmin VPN IP, if you’re using it.
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. Is LANShare safe?
This warning appears because LANShare isn’t digitally signed yet — certificates are expensive for a free project. Click More info and then Run anyway. The full source code is public on GitHub, so anyone can check what the app does.
Is my stream private?
Your screen is sent directly between the computers in the room — there are no LANShare servers in between. Protect your room with a password and only share your screen with people you trust.
How do I update LANShare?
Download the latest version from this website and replace the old one. Your settings are kept. Previous versions are listed in the changelog.
How can I report a bug or suggest a feature?
